Tutoring

DONATE NOW
Almost all of us fondly remember those people who "made a difference" in our educational upbringing. A special teacher, a concerned counselor, a buddy, a loving parent -- those people who explained difficult material, who revealed the beauty and value of learning, who provided a role model, or simply stuck with us in tough times. Tutors and mentors can, and often do, enrich the lives of young people. Sometimes they even turn lives around.

The Alliance is looking for people who are interested in tutoring students in math or science here in Santa Fe.

Where We Tutor

SFAFS tutors at Capital High, Santa Fe High, Santa Fe Community College, and New Mexico School for the Arts. We can use more tutors for all those locations.

Where We Mentor

Some tutors may meet students who want some mentoring on research ideas, and those can be arranged in the tutoring context. We also have a tutor who meets regularly in a classroom at Laragoitte Academy. All tutoring is at the high school level and focuses on math, physics, and chemistry.

Where We Visit

We would like to grow a program of having scientists come for repeated visits to individual classrooms to discuss a variety of interesting topics. One of our volunteers currently does that several times a month at Wood-Gormley Elementary School. These programs are at the request of the teachers.
