                       !! 2025/2026  Was a Great Science Fair Season !!
Thank you to all of our NEW JUDGES and CLASSROOM VOLUNTEERS who have helped out this school year.
We are scientists, engineers, and other STEM professionals who volunteer to help students in STEM education in Santa Fe schools
The Santa Fe Alliance for Science supports Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) education and enrichment, with a current focus on K-12 school students.
Santa Fe is fortunate to have a large population of scientists and engineers for a community of its size. Until the founding of the Santa Fe Alliance for Science in 2005 this resource was not utilized by Santa Fe schools. Santa Fe Alliance for Science began finding, recruiting, and organizing scientists to volunteer in schools.
The need was great, schools were welcoming, and now some 100 professionals volunteer.  We provide STEM enrichment activities in schools, interact one-on-one with hundreds of students at school STEM fairs, support STEM workshops for teachers, and partner with community organizations to offer interactive STEM workshops for middle and high school students.

VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT
Picture
The Spotlight is on Andy Krumpe

We welcomed Andy to the Adopt-A-School (AAS) Eighth Grade Mentoring Team in the fall of 2025.  His role was to support individual and small groups of students weekly from October to end of January guiding them to identify science fair project topics and through the steps of the investigative process with the goal of a final product to be judged during the science fair at Nina Otero Community School in February 2026.

In addition, Andy spends his mornings helping out in the sixth-grade science class with Ms. Montoya. He provides support as students study several topics including heat and energy as well as those in earth science.  He participated in activities, one making sedimentary rocks with crushed Jolly Rancher candies and applying pressure using stacked books over a weekend. When the topics turn to biology, he looks forward to working with the sixth graders on making models of cells. He also was one of the chaperons on a field trip to Meow Wolf. Other field trips are planned, and he is eager to accompany them. Ms. Chrissy Romero welcomes having him to  tutor small groups of students in math.

The AAS  program is grateful for having him as a member of the Adopt-A-School Program.
